Review: Oriental Residence Luxury Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand

A sense of calm washed over me as I entered the lobby of the Oriental Residence Bangkok. Leaving the steamy streets behind for the cool polished lobby, the staff whisked me to a seat to wait for check in. Decked out in a muted colour palette, with perfectly balanced and arranged furniture, the lobby is the kind of place you want to linger, as opposed to just pass through. It was when I reached my room, however, that I decided this wasn’t just a great place to stay in Bangkok. But somewhere I’d like to live. Forever!

Why Stay In This Luxury Hotel In Bangkok?

The Oriental Residence hosts 145 elegantly appointed suites, from 1 to 3 beds, which are ideal for extended stays. My room, a Grand Deluxe King, felt like a self-contained apartment, complete with kitchen, dining and lounge area and (the best bit!) a walk-in wardrobe, which connected the bathroom and bedroom.

The residence is located on Wireless Road in Bangkok’s Embassy District. It’s in the perfect position for both business travellers and shopaholics (see more below). It’s also great for those, like myself, who are attending a conference at the Queen Sirikit Convention Centre.

But whilst the location is great for business the building itself overlooks a park, giving the rooms a leafy, green outlook. The floor to ceiling windows frame the view and as there is a drop down desk from the wall unit you can perch near the window to work while soaking up the greenery below.

The guest rooms feature the same sophisticated, muted palette as the lobby. The grey of the sofa perfectly complimented the pastel-coloured cushions as well as the purple flowers and macarons that were kindly left in my room.

The bed was just the way I like it – a retro-lux padded headboard paired with incredibly soft sheeting and mattress. I can’t emphasis enough how sumptuous it felt to sink into those pillows – if beds had a star rating this would definitely get 5 from me.

On the dark wood side table was an alarm clock, which had a usb cable for phone-charging. I’ve seen this in a few rooms recently and it’s simply genius.

The bathroom was all lux too, with underfloor heating that felt particularly indulgent. I also appreciated how the amenities provided were full size – almost like they were encouraging you to stay longer and pretend this is your new home.

I didn’t make use of the kitchen facilities as I had plans in the evenings but I noticed how immaculate the space was. If I had given into the munchies the minibar had all my cravings covered – I even spied Lindt chocolate!

Play Deck at Oriental Residence Bangkok

The 4^th floor is where you find the Play Deck. The pool is cleverly half covered so if you wish to avoid the heat of the sun you can lounge at the shady end in comfortable nest-like beds. For sunlovers, like myself, there are also loungers at the far end of the pool, which come with city views and a refreshing breeze. Towels are already conveniently laid out on the beds, all you have to do is pick one.

What About The Breakfast?

Breakfast is served at the French-inspired Café Claire. Guests can help themselves to continental and select cooked items from the buffet as well as choose from a menu of made to order dishes. Because I can’t resist the sweet treats I ordered the waffle tower, served with berries and syrup, and it was deliciously well-suited to the sweet bistro-style seating. The coffee was also the best I tasted in Bangkok; thankfully the staff were very generous about bringing me more whenever I finished a cup.

My stay was just for 2 short nights but I gladly could have hung around a lot longer. I’ll just have to settle for replicating the decor at home until the time comes to check in again.
