Australia’s Best Beaches

Staggering fact: Australia has over 10,000 beaches. I googled it when researching my latest post for Skyscanner Australia. By rough guestimation, therefore, I reckon I’ve been to approx 0.5% of Australia’s beaches. Say what? I best get moving.

Among the 0.5% of Australia’s beaches I’ve visited though I’ve seen some incredible, world-class corkers. For those of you who don’t have time to see all 10k I narrowed down my absolute favourites.

For razzle dazzle: Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays, QLD

The dazzling white sand of Whitehaven Beach has earned it the title of one of the best beaches in the world. I’ve been lucky enough to sail, swim and sunbathe at Whitehaven but for the ultimate, mind-blowing Whitehaven experience I recommend you fly over it.

For a Sydney local experience: Bronte Beach, Sydney, NSW

Bondi’s little sister is just as pretty but half as busy. Follow the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk to the gorgeous bay at Bronte. Climb the hill for brunch at Three Blue Ducks if you fancy a treat.

For family fun: Cottesloe Beach, Perth, WA

Warm turquoise waters and 1.5kms of sand make Cottesloe Beach in Perth a family favourite. Stay till sunset to watch the sun take a dip in the Indian Ocean.

For remoteness & roos: Lucky Bay, Esperance, WA

So this one’s still on my bucket list. Located in Western Australia’s Cape Le Grand National Park it’s a little hard to get to compared to some of the city beaches on this list. But just look at it.

For spectacular scenery: Wineglass Bay, Freycinet National Park, Tasmania

A perfect crescent surrounded by craggy mountains, this is another one on my bucket list.

For thrill-seekers: Seventy-Five Mile Beach, Fraser Island, QLD

Shipwrecks, lagoons, wild dingoes and a 75 mile beach you can drive on – Seventy-Five Mile Beach on Fraser Island is the ultimate beach for thrill-seekers.

For road trippers: Apollo Bay, Great Ocean Road, Victoria

Apollo Bay is the perfect pit stop along the scenic Great Ocean Road. Renown for its seafood it would be rude not to stop for fish n’ chips on the beach.

For surfers: Broadbeach, Gold Coast, QLD

I see Broadbeach as the upmarket big sister to party-central Surfers Paradise. It’s got golden sands, great brunch spots and a weekend market – visiting Broadbeach gave me a totally new perspective on the GC.

  1. Wow, what an awesome idea for a post. Lucky Bay is a new one to me and I lived in Oz for over a year. The best thing about that pic is, after being around Skipy and co, is that they love hanging out like that. That picture was not set up at all – Kangeroos natures most chilled out creation!

Good luck on the other 99.5% Janey!

  2. Good choice dear! I’ve been to a few of these and I agree they’are really amazing! Especially the Whitehaven Beach, I really love it because of its pure white sand and crystal clear water.
