Byron Bay was made for brunching. Whether you crave acai bowls, organic hotcakes or generous slabs of eggs and avocado on sourdough – read on to discover my pick of the best brunch spots in Byron Bay.
Bayleaf Café
This centrally located café was always busy whenever we drove past so I decided we must investigate why on our last morning in Byron. The reason for the crowds, it transpired, is that they excel at brunch. If you’re looking for something hearty to fill you up post surf (or night on the town) then the eggs and sourdough at Bayleaf won’t disappoint. They also serve fantastic coffee with locally roasted Marvell Street beans. The staff are super friendly and accommodating and there’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to chose from.

The Top Shop
Byron Bay is where I finally learnt how to pronounce acai and it’s just as well because the acia breakfast bowl by the Top Shop is one of the most refreshing and delicious things I’ve ever tasted. Frozen acai is topped with banana, strawberries and paleo granolo in a pot that is big enough to share. I also recommend you try one of the big gooey muffins – I had the choc berry but the savoury tomato and bacon (I think) that came out the oven shortly after looked divine. The Top Shop is also known for its great coffee and I recommend their house made chai, which you can buy iced in a takeaway bottle.
The Top Shop, 65 Carlyle St, Byron Bay
Folk Byron Bay
I raved a lot about Folk in my last Byron Bay post but this place is so seriously cool I’m going to rave about it again. The menu at Folk focuses on locally sourced organic ingredients and the result is dishes like the buckwheat banana hotcakes with fresh fruit and house-made labne that I devoured on our visit. They also serve superbowls full of greens and do a good coffee and chai range too. To top it all off they have one of the cutest cafes venues I think I’ve ever seen.
Folk Byron Bay, 1/399 Ewingsdale Rd, Byron Bay
Harvest Café
Talking of cute venues, the weatherboard cottage that houses Harvest Café in Newrybar is pretty photogenic too. Every Byron local or regular I spoke to raved about Harvest and with good reason too. The café focuses on locally sourced organic products and at the on site bakery they host ‘Sourdough Saturday and Sundays’ where you can buy treats fresh out of the wood-fired oven.

The Farm
The Farm is a multi-purpose venue on the outskirts of Byron. Not only is the 80 acre property a working farm but it’s also home to a restaurant (the award-winning Three Blue Ducks), produce store and kid’s activities programme. In the main shed you can grab a coffee and baked goods by The Bread Social or if you’d like something a little more special put your name down for a table at Three Blue Ducks and dine on one of the pretty and wholesome dishes.
