Since moving to this side of the pond I seem to stumble across another awesome Aussie travel blog everyday. As someone who is new to the country I’ve been devouring the advice local travel bloggers have to offer about travelling in Australia, as well as learning about some of the subtle differences between blogging in the Aussie market versus the UK one. For anyone planning on travelling to Oz, or just looking for some new content to light up your feed, I’d like to introduce you toĀ my favourite Australian travel bloggers.
The Travelling Light is such a distinctive, beautifully designed blog I feel compelled to dig around further every time I end up on it. The content is a visual curation of special places the author Katie (a branding and marketing professional) has discovered around the globe. Her list of secret places I think you’ll love include; yoga classes in Hoi An, secret bars in LondonĀ and gelato in Rome.

A Pair & A Spare is a lifestyle website with a heavy dose of DIY. Geneva, the author and founder, has combined her love for craft and design with travel to produce stylish travel guides and DIY travel projects. I hope to follow in the footsteps of her quick guide to Byron Bay someday soon and will pack my DIY travel journal with me when I go!

Mister Weekender wants me want to see more of Australia. Right this minute! Her images and itinerary suggestions for Tasmania, in particular, made me want to hop on the next flight. SiteĀ founder,Ā Jaharn, very kindly puts all her itinerary recommendations into free downloadable pdf guides – how handy is that?

Phoebe’s site is chock-full of travel tips and intuitive living advice. She’s a Brisbane local and has lots of great posts (and videos) on things to do in the city. It’s her personal column that really draws you into Phoebe’s site though, her honesty and candidness in posts such asĀ this are refreshingly endearing.

The evocatively named Escape Button makes me want to repeatedly press the escape button on my keyboard until I end up somewhere that looks like its home page! Run by freelance stylist Jess, I love how she injects her sense of style into her travel posts.Ā Particularly impressive is the way she showed a stylish side to Canberra in her latest posts – this coffee roasters looks tempting and the photos from the hot air balloon ride she took are simply breath-taking.

If I’m ever unsure about what airline or class to fly in I turn to Nicole. The self-confessed aviation geek behind Bitten By The Travel Bug writes such detailed flight reviews you feel like you flew with her (if only!) Based in Melbourne, she also writes about the street art and food scene they rock over there – she’s even got me tempted to try the Barbie High Tea at The Langham.

I love a good travel story and Megan (or Pegs) from Pegs On The Line is a bloomin’ brilliant story-teller. She has the ability to take you on a journey;Ā I’ve loved retracing her father’s footstepsĀ with her in Queensland and watching her fall back in love with Tasmania – despite some (mainly internet and transport based) frustrations.

Following Christine’s blog, Adventure Baby, has taught me thatĀ having kids doesn’t mean you have to be any less adventurous – or that you must stop eating in nice brunch spots and cafes! Adventure Baby featuresĀ child-friendly travel guides, tips on parenting around the worldĀ and food – lots of tempting and delicious food. I particularly enjoy Christine’sĀ reviews ofĀ drool-worthy places to feed the family in Sydney, andĀ the cute photos of her family dining outĀ she includes in them.

I’d really recommend the ATAS travel blog as well (http://www.atas.com.au), which is run by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents. It’s got a knowledge-sharing vibe with heaps of info on domestic and international travel, and they’re running a really wholesome series of articles at the moment (during the COVID-19 days of border closure, etc.) about what travel means to us, gamechanging travel books and so on. Perfect for armchair travel during #isolife!
