Our Destination Wedding At The Sarojin In Thailand

On Monday I got the best email from Darin Images. Our wedding photographer had painstakingly edited 600 images from our wedding in April. From giggles with my mum and bridesmaids whilst getting ready, to reactions to the speeches and throwing shapes in the sand, Darin and her team captured every sweet moment in the most spectacular fashion.

I can’t tell you what a relief it was to see these gorgeous images because to be honest up until this point I had forgotten quite how wonderful the day was. I’ve mentioned before that we had a few things not go to plan. In the week leading up the wedding we had cancelled flights, visits to the doctors and a last minute dash to Brisbane for me to purchase a new dress after alterations went awry with my first choice. Yep, that incredible floral dress which has garnered me so many compliments was not what I was originally going to wear but boy was I glad I did. Massive thanks to Jennifer Gifford for opening her showroom for me the week before the wedding so I could get wed in her Paige dress!

The day was riddled with little errors too – from wrong table plans and settings, to confusion over the bar tab and the DJ not getting the set list. We had a wedding planner in Oz but not one there with us on the day so Justin and I were kept busy fighting these fires –  read more here.

And then I look at these pictures and that is all forgotten. With the help of Darin and her team, now I remember the champagne that my friend Nic ended up wearing, how fabulous my gorgeous bridesmaids looked, the creative readings from our groomsman and my sister and the touching speeches at dinner. We laughed our heads off at things we hadn’t noticed on the day and said ‘oh god I remember..’ about funny things we had already begun to forget over the last few crazy months.

So without further ado here’s a selection of just some of the pics that bought us happy tears.

Our ceremony was held a little further down the beach from The Sarojin hotel. Guests were seated in the shade of this luscious tree, reeds and petals marked the aisle and little origami birds hung from the branches.

This is getting a little long so you’ll have to pop back next time for the reception and couples portraits, which came out better than we ever dreamed!

    • Oh how lovely, I’m sure you’ll have a fabulous time. The pool, beach and rooms are all divine. And thanks so much! It was tough choosing something that would work well in the heat but this turned out to be perfect.

  1. Hi there! Your photos look amazing! My fiancé and I are looking to have our wedding at the sarojin. Are there any do’s/dont’s you would advise? What did you do for evening entertainment? Did you have a band or anything?

    • Hi Denise, Congrats! As you can see from the pics The Sarojin is a gorgeous place to get hitched. The set up of the ceremony, the secluded beach, the food, the rooms were all perfect. But we did find communication with their wedding planner very difficult and had a number of small things go wrong on the day. We booked through an Aussie wedding planning agency and completed all the recommended paperwork but things including table plan, table settings, flower arrangements and bar tab were all wrong on the day. I guess some mis-communication is expected with a destination wedding but if you’re a stickler for details I recommend hiring an on-site planner or choosing a different venue. Entertainment-wise we had a DJ (Ben Jay) who was very good but beware the venue charge you more for a dancefloor and you have to pay for his equipment and travel to the venue. He also never received our set list from the venue and there was a power cut half way through! We loved, loved, loved our photographer Darin Images and I can’t recommend Neil Donkin for hair and make up enough. I wrote some more tips for weddings in Thailand here that you might find helpful but feel free to shoot me any questions at [email protected].
