Sofitel Brisbane Central could not be more conveniently located. After taking the train from Brisbane airport straight into the city the sign for the Sofitel caught my eye just beyond the ticket barriers at Brisbane Central Station. I flashed my ticket and wheeled my way straight into the lobby. (Well almost, silly me took the escalator down to the street instead of up to the hotel on the first attempt – I’ll know for next time!)
Much like my experience at the Sofitel hotels I have stayed in before, I was greeted with an alluring scent and friendly ‘bonjour’. The staff quickly checked me in with the promise that my room had a good view and weren’t too insistent when I said I would wheel my own bags (I feel bad when it’s just a small case and prefer to look after myself if I can).
Arriving on the 25th floor I discovered that the promise of a good view had not been oversold. My room looked out directly across Anzac Square, the Anzac Memorial and Post Office Square – giving me a great perspective of central Brisbane.
My newly refurbished Luxury King room was generously sized and elegantly decorated. I was pleased to have a desk to get some work down and I may have reclined in the corner seat to watch an episode of the Bachelor that evening (don’t judge me!). The hero of the room, of course, was the Sofitel MyBed™. I’ve mentioned before how much I love the innovative, custom-designed Sofitel beds and it was an absolute treat to have this king size one to myself. (No offence to my other half; sometimes a girl just wants to starfish.)
The Luxury rooms come with upgraded amenities so I was able to lather myself in Lanvin toiletries but I found the bathrobe was a little too small to be comfortable – I think it may have been made for more petite ladies than myself. There was a lovely welcome gift of a fruit platter presented in a gorgeous Parisian box and the truffle delivered by the turn down team was so good I wanted to rush after her and ask for more.
At breakfast I decided to embrace the continental theme and helped myself to a selection of fresh baguette, croissants and cheese at Thyme2 Restaurant. One mouthful of the President butter and I was immediately taken back to holidays in France as a child. I also had fun making myself a fresh fruit smoothie; blitzing pineapple, orange and mango together for a refreshing drink. The servers were wonderfully attentive and friendly and I was delighted to discover they served very Aussie coffee to go with my European brekkie.
There are quite a few dining and drinking options at the hotel. Cuvée Lounge Bar was buzzy when I passed through on Thursday night and I saw them serving a very tempting looking afternoon tea the next day. The PRIVÉ249 restaurant offers a menu of French inspired Australian cuisine and if you’re staying in a Club room you’ll have access to Australia’s largest executive lounge on the 30th floor.
Although it wasn’t the weather for a dip I went to take a look at the pool facilities on level 3 and wished it warmer. There’s a hidden terrace of sun loungers just beyond the hot tub that will be a fantastic place to enjoy a glass of wine and good book on a warm summers day.
If you’re looking for an incredibly comfy bed in a convenient central location Sofitel Brisbane Central is a fantastic option. For me, the Sofitel name is synonymous with service and this hotel did not disappoint. The staff I encountered were helpful and friendly, and the breakfast spread is rather good too!
