Every couple of years I share my Christmas travel gift guide full of essential travel gifts, gadgets and experiences for travel addicts. But as its rather challenging for travel fans to satisfy their itchy feet right now, I thought this year I’d do a roundup of Christmas gifts that inspire or celebrate travel instead.
From exotic scents, to travel home décor, wanderlust-inducing books and lounge wear that can (hopefully) be worn on a plane one day, these are my luxury travel gift recommendations that grounded travellers can enjoy at home. (Until we’re on the go again!)

Luxury Travel Gifts To Enjoy At Home
The Books
Travel Home: Design With A Global Spirit
We’re all spending a lot more time at home, so what better gift for a travel lover than a book all about the ways you can incorporate travel memories and inspirations into your interior design.
This visually stunning tome takes you inside the homes of global travellers with a flair for design. Peek inside the stylish homes of the likes of fashion designer Malene Birger and find out how her travels have influenced her home décor.
Images of stunning homes are interspersed with helpful guides on subjects such as how to collect interesting textiles on your travels, styling a bookcase and picking up a bargain at a flea market.
I dig into this book all the time for styling ideas and think it looks rather chic on the coffee table too!
Kindle Paperwhite
My kind and clever husband bought me a Kindle Paperwhite last Christmas as its glare-free screen and waterproof protection mean it’s the perfect reading device for when you’re reclining on a sun lounger.
While I didn’t end up getting to test it out poolside this summer, I did do lots of reading in the garden and couldn’t believe how easy it was to read the screen in bright sunlight.
Hopefully one day the Kindle Paperwhite will be a great companion on the beach, but for now it’s pretty handy in the bath too.
The Reading List
Who doesn’t love a good bit of travel literature in their stocking?! If you want to impress a travel lover with a wanderlust-inducing page-turner, check out my Amazon Shop list of 30+ best books set all around the world.
Worried your giftee has read them all? Plump for One August Night by Victoria Hislop. It’s the brand new sequel to her much-loved novel The Island and I, for one, can’t wait to run away to Greece (metaphorically speaking) with it this winter.
The Scents
I recently treated myself to a Winter candle from The White Company. It’s their signature Christmas scent with notes of cinnamon, clove and orange that’s been on the market for 21 years. It’s truly divine and smells fabulous even when it’s not lit!
This led me to look up more of The White Company scents and I discovered the Seychelles range, which combines evocative bergamot, bright orange and fresh coconut, with a hint of green jasmine, warming amber and buttery vanilla in a way the website describes as ‘a warm Indian Ocean breeze’. (You can just picture it can’t you!)
The Seychelles Mini Home Scenting Set, which comes with a candle, diffuser and room spray, is going on my Christmas list.

Aesop Gift Kits
I never could walk past an Aesop store in Oz without stopping to try the samples and when I saw the bathroom of the AirBnb we stayed in Melbourne last year was fully stocked with their products I whooped for joy.
This Christmas, Aesop have put together the coolest gift kits for travellers that combine their best-selling products with short stories from literary nomads. Top of my list is The Seasoned Wayfarer kit which combines a trio of aromatic essentials for the home (including those famous Post-Poo Drops!) with a fable by famed Bengali polymath and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
Ultrasonic Diffuser Gift Set
If choosing a scent is a little too difficult for the person you’re buying for, this Marks and Spencer ultrasonic diffuser is a dead ringer for some more expensive ones on the market.
It comes with a calm aroma oil that’s perfect for bedtime and promises 6 hours of soothing aroma per go.
USB candle lighter
Finally, this Electric Candle Lighter is a handy little stocking filler for the candle lover in your life. It comes in a chic gift box and is USB rechargeable, so they’ll never have to hunt around for matches again.
Loungewear You Can Travel In Someday
What could be more appropriate to gift someone this year than loungewear? I think we’ve all upped our loungewear game this year and there are some gorgeous sets available now that wouldn’t look out on place on a plane once we’re allowed to fly again.
A few pieces that have caught my eye are:
ASOS DESIGN knitted hoody and wide leg trouser set in cream
I bought this last one for my mum for her birthday after feeling how super soft it was in store. The generous waterfall front makes me think it would be perfect to wrap yourself in when you’re next shielding from the air con on a flight.
Travel Prints & Photography
We’re all getting a bit bored of looking at the same walls, so why not brighten someone’s home this Christmas with a visual reminder of their favourite places around the world.
I’ve written in detail about where I go to buy affordable art with a travel theme but I think the work of Nina Brooke and Lucy Laucht, in particular, will make a Christmas gift someone will truly treasure.
Seriously, if you can stretch to gift a loved one a limited-edition print from one of these travelling artists you’ll win Christmas!
Hope you find these ideas handy. Maybe you’ll even treat yourself!
