If you’re planning to cruise or island hop in Greece this summer then you’re probably keen to know the best places to stay in the port of Piraeus, Athens.
I recently went on a cruise from Athens and based on my research have put together this list of stylish properties close to the port that are more affordable than they look.
So, from budget boltholes to boutique hotels, these are my recommendations for where to stay in Piraeus, Athens.

Best boutique hotels near Piraeus Port, Athens
Best for views – The Alex Monte Kastella
For my one night in Athens before boarding a cruise I chose to stay at The Alex Monte Kastella. While not the closest hotel to the port of Piraeus (scroll down for options within walking distance) I chose this hotel because it has stunning sea view rooms and an atmospheric rooftop restaurant where I could enjoy a leisurely brunch before leaving.
I found the staff at the hotel exceptional. They reached out before my stay to ask if there was anything I needed and they were super friendly and efficient at check in. Although the restaurant was open late I felt too tired to dine there when I arrived at the hotel so opted for a delicious burger from room service instead.
The next morning, I enjoyed complimentary tea and coffee from the lobby and a brilliant brunch at the Nest rooftop restaurant, which offers views of picturesque Mikrolimano, the Athens Riviera and even the Acropolis if you look hard enough.

The rooms were simple but more than comfortable for a short stay in Athens. It took me less than 10 mins and cost approx 7 Euro to reach my cruise ship in the morning.
I also liked that the hotel offered an airport transport for 60 Euros. I opted to take an Uber and it was exactly the same price so next time I’ll definitely take up their offer and have a driver meet me instead!
Overall, I felt like this was a great place to stay to get a little taste of Athens whilst also being conveniently close to the cruise ship terminal.
Book The Alex Monte KastellaBest for budget – Twinn Downtown Piraeus
Santikos Collection, who also own The Alex Hotel, recently opened a budget-friendly hotel right in the heart of Piraeus. The Twinn Downtown Piraeus offers comfortable, contemporary rooms from just 80 Euros a night.
Twinn Downtown also has a stylish rooftop terrace and offers breakfast, free wifi and an airport shuttle service, so it’s a really convenient option for a pit stop in Piraeus.
Best for transport links – Athenarum Portus Life & Style Hotel
If access to public transport and being a hop, skip and a jump from the port are your priorities for a stay in Piraeus then you can’t beat the location of the Athenarum Portus Life & Style Hotel.
The rooms here look super generous, some have partial sea views, and at around 80 Euros a night, it’s another purse-friendly option for this area.
The best thing about this hotel is that the Athenarum is just a block away from the Piraeus metro station and you’re close enough to the port to see the water.
Best design – Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port
A great option for cruise passengers is the brand new Mitsis N’U Piraeus Port, which is under 100 metres away from gate E7 and just 5 mins from Cruise Terminals A, B, and C in a taxi.
This hotel has my favourite design out of all the options in Piraeus. (I mean just look at that headboard!) The rooms look really calm and stylish and the Amber Cellar Restaurant and rooftop bar look set to become culinary destinations in Athens.
Looking for somewhere to stay in central Athens?
The chicest rooms with Acropolis views can be found at A77 Suites by Andronis. This property by Lim Hotels (who run a collection of effortlessly stylish boutique hotels in Greece) is found in a recently restored 19th century neoclassical building in Plaka.
The subtle blend of old and new combined with exceptional service, including in-suite breakfasts, will leave you feeling like a lucky Athenian local.
For a luxury stay in Athens with the most breathtaking pool with a view, you can’t look past The Dolli at Acropolis.
Conde Nast Traveller named the pool at The Dolli one of the most beautiful swimming pools in the world. The 46 neutral chic rooms with Acropolis views look rather incredible too. This is definitely one to save for a special weekend in Athens.
